Americans should not only have the opportunity to vote but to protect themselves against the flu.

Vote & Vax is a collaboration between The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the nonprofit agency SPARC (Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration). We work with all local public health providers who would like to offer convenient flu vaccinations at polling places across the country.

Recognition for Vote & Vax

Vote & Vax has received the 2008-2009 National Influenza Vaccine Summit Immunization Excellence Award for Overall Season Activity. This award recognizes the innovative nature of the project's strategy, as well as the outstanding efforts of the large number of providers who participated in Vote & Vax 2008. It was presented at the National Immunization Conference, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Election 2008 Successes

Over the 2008 Election, Vote & Vax participants delivered 21,434 influenza vaccinations at 331 locations in 42 states and the District of Columbia. Of those vaccinated, almost half (47.7%) were "new" recipients, meaning they had either not received a flu shot in the preceding year or would not have otherwise been vaccinated.  The Vote & Vax program is currently organizing clinics for 2010. Vote & Vax In Action

Vote & Vax has built a network of providers across the United States who organized and run flu clinics at polling sites on or around Election Day. For many providers, such as Marshall County Health Department in Marysville, Kansas, participating in Vote & Vax 2008 was a chance to continue the success they had in 2004 and integrate the program into their regular public health practice.

“Vote & Vax staff’s quick response to our questions turned out to be critical in the eyes of our Elections Authority. I was able to ease their concerns and answer their questions which immediately assisted in bringing them on board.”
