In 2006, Vote & Vax helped providers hold flu shot clinics and administer influenza vaccinations around the country. Most Successful Effort of the Year

On Election Day 2006, the Polk County Health Department held Vote & Vax clinics in two polling places in their county. Clinic staff worked the sites from 7:00 am to 7:00pm, administering 323 flu shots and as well as many pneumococcal vaccinations. The Polk County Vote & Vax clinic not only met their goals, but also became their most successful vaccination clinic of that year, delivering over 60 percent more vaccines than any other clinic.

Reached New Vaccine Recipients

Additionally, the clinic reached large numbers of local residents who may not have otherwise have received a shot. More than 25 percent of the recipients reported that they had not received a flu shot the previous year.

Susan Ahl of the Polk County Health Department said, "Many of the individuals we served voiced their appreciation for the fact that we had made it so convenient for them to get their flu shot while at the polls."

Providing vaccinations at the polls reaped a large reward without burdening the staff or resources. The Polk County Health Department also found it easy to work with its local polling authorities.
